The Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University serves all the Maritime Provinces in Canada. If you are an undergraduate medical student seeking a clinical elective in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, or Prince Edward Island, you must submit your application through Dalhousie University. We do not accept requests for core rotations or observerships.
Applications must be received four (4) months prior to the start date of the proposed elective, but not more than nine (9) months. Submitting an elective application does not guarantee a placement. There is limited availability for elective placements in June, July, and August.
General Information for all students
Hospital Holidays- Electives are scheduled to start on Monday (Tuesday in the case of a holiday) and finish on Friday.
Elective Catalogue - Please check before applying; some Departments do have exclusions periods.
Dalhousie University is not responsible for travel or accommodation expenses. Students are required to bring their own white lab coat.
Malpractice Insurance: International students require a minimum of $5 million in professional liability (malpractice insurance).
Changes to applications will not be considered: -All elective applications are to be submitted electronically. Please note that changes to requested electives cannot be made and require re-application and additional payment of both the application fee and non-refundable administrative fee. The Elective fee will be refunded if your request cannot be accommodated.
